The Homepage Offer

This post is part of a collection on Code and Computers.

If I know you in person or follow you on Twitter I will help you set up a personal website for free. Contact me and we can work out the details.

Get a home of your own.

This is what I can do:

  • set up a domain name
  • help you pick a template suited to your needs
  • configure email with your domain
  • teach you how to update and modify your site
  • explain how site costs work

This is what I cannot do:

  • be prompt
  • extensive visual customization
  • handle frequent updates

I can't promise to support your site forever. If you need that, pay somebody. But I can get you started.

Why am I doing this? It seems like hardly a day goes by where I don't see the negative effects of an Internet that's owned by a small number of companies. I think it'd be great if everyone had their own little slice of the Web, but to be honest the barriers are still too high. I can't reasonably expect my friends to set up a site by themselves; there are too many pitfalls, too many details to learn from scratch.

But I'm used to that, so I'll do what I can to help. Mail me. Ψ
